HIstory- Nicotine is named after the plant nicotiana tabacum. Tobacco was named after a french ambassador who sent tobacco seeds from Brazil to Paris. He sent them to serve as medicine. Nicotine was first isolated from tobacco plants in 1882 by german chemists Posselt and Reimann. They thought the nicotine was a poison.
